Prince Paints the Town Red

The scene could have been entitled “The Prince and the Paint Brush” – but in this case the paintbrush was a jet airplane, and Prince Jurgen Von Anhalt used the gale force of the winds, spewed from the engine, to create a masterpiece.  The event was held at the new Million Air Los Angeles Executive Airport, and among the enthralled guests were Maria Conchita Alonzo, Dennis Cole (who acted as master of ceremonies), Sammy Davis, Jr.’s attractive widow, Altovise Davis and Barbara Lazaroff – partner of Wolfgang Puck of Spago, who provided an assortment of elegant hors d’oeuvres.

Escorted by an honorary military color guard, Carol Connors performed our National Anthem with her usual enthusiasm and aplomb.

It was so cool (in more ways than one)  -  that Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk) said he needed a sweater.  Any chance of finding one that would fit the Hulk?  Others overwhelmed by the synthesis of power, timing and environment; which created the unusual texture and structure, included producer Pamela Shae , and  Leyla Milani (Deal or No Deal)

At the conclusion of the program, both the Prince and Princess Tarinan were covered with paint – but the results were well worth it.  The paintings are in collections, museums and office buildings world-wide. A great start to their world tour, which will end in Moscow on the Red Square.. For further info, and demonstration of Jet Art, check out You-Tube, Jet Art Millennium World Tour –2008.  What a great reality show this would make!

Night of 100 Stars Oscar Viewing Gala

We again spent Oscar night at the Beverly Hills Hotel Crystal Ballroom at the Night of 100 Stars Black Tie Dinner Viewing Gala.  After 18 years, we feel like we are sharing Oscar Night with “family” – but in this case, the family includes scads of former Oscar winners and nominees.  Norby Walters, veteran music agent, reprised his role as Producer and Dinner Chairman, and among the celebs in attendance were Martin Landau, James Cromwell, the Carradine brothers – looking somber as usual, Pr wiz, Edward Lozzi, Daniel Baldwin, and Hercules himself, Kevin Sorbo.  Particularly enjoyed chatting with Tony Shaloub (Monk) who seems to be on a perpetual honeymoon with his actress wife, Brooke Adams,  (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and gorgeous Tia Carrere, who was decked out in a flaming red gown, which seemed to be the color of the evening. Tia, who shared the screen with Mike Myers in Wayne’s World, and Schwarzenegger in True Lies, first love is music, and she recently received a Grammy nomination in the “Best Hawaiian Music Album” category

The late Anna Nicole Smith was a frequent guest at Norby’s parties, and this year she was well represented by her baby daughter, Danielynn and daddy, Larry Birkhead. Would you believe it, he posed with a personalized pacifier for his daughter? To add to the mix, even Prince Frederick Von Anhalt (no relation to Jurgen), who claimed to be Dannielynn’s father, was in attendance – as well as Zsa Zsa Gabor’s  daughter, Francesca Hilton.  Talk about 40 degrees of separation on the Hollywood Hotline

1- Super Superbowl Soiree

Football has never been a priority in my life – but the annual Superbowl Soiree at Spago is a high point on my social calendar.  Michael Viner (Phoenix Books) always hosts a fabulous bash at the Beverly Hills eatery, and Wolfgang Puck does him proud. What could be better than chowing down on hot dogs, chili, cheeseburgers and even potato knishes, at the most star studded buffet line in town.

Seen dishing out their goodies and watching the big game on 16 big screen plasma screens were Larry and Shawn King and their two adorable young sons, Robert & Audrey Loggia, Dolph Lundgren, Dick and Patty Van Patten and George Schlatter (Laugh In) to name a few.  The Giants may have won the Superbowl, but we were bowled over by the fantastic food and gorgeous guests.

2- Movies for Grownups

AARP – The Magazine, hosted “Movies for Grownups”at the elegant Bel Air Hotel.

These awards honor those over 50, that are continuing to engage audiences with new approaches; and sterling work by actors, actresses and writers at the top of their game

John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtis were the hosts of the evening, which paid tribute to the 20th Anniversary of A Fish Called Wanda.  Unfortunately Jamie Lee had the flu, and was replaced by Dana Delany, Desperate Housewives,.  Cleese remarked, “She’s a much better actress than Jamie anyway.” Curtis who turns 50, will soon be seen bare shouldered on the cover of the May-June issue, showing off her well-known charms.

Ruby Dee who won for Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Gangster said, “I’m so happy to join the ranks of folks who are not going to retire.”  And Hal  Holbrook, whose performance in Into the Wild was memorable, accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award from his wife Dixie Carter (Designing Women).  .

Savages received the award for best movie for grownups, while Chris Cooper for Breach won best actor.  Julie Christie picked up her award for best actress for her haunting performance in Away From Her. The still striking beauty clearly demonstrates that age is no barrier.

Michael Moore, (Sicko) who won in the category of best documentary, delivered his usual rant, and  received resounding applause from such ageless stars as Angela Lansbury, Jacqueline Bissett, Ed Begly Jr and the indomitable Julie Andrews, who has turned her considerable talents to writing. Andrews and her daughter, Emma write together, and oversee a collection of children’s stories .

Other awards were given to Director Kevin Lima, whose film Enchanted was named Best Movie for Grownups who Refuse to Grow Up; and The Bucket List, which won as Best Buddy movie. When producer director Rob Reiner accepted his award, he related how difficult it was to obtain financing for “a movie about two dying men”.
