Men of A Certain Age

By: Valerie Milano

December 7, 2009, TNT debuted an original comedy-drama series, Men of a Certain Age, starring Ray Romano, Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher.

The three characters, best friends since college are facing life and its challenges as the reach mid-life. Although the theme may seem familiar, the male perspective is fresh and as yet, untapped in an hour long series. The men’s friendships, relationships and life choices are explored honestly and humorously.

The first episode drew an audience of 5.4 million viewers as TNT introduced Joe, Own and Terry, each dealing with their careers, families and failures. The three friends discover they have landed right in the middle of middle age.

Ray Romano, nominated for two Golden Globes portrays Joe, a recently separated father of two with some gambling demons. Andre Braugher, Owen, also nominated for 2 Golden Globes is a married father of young children who works for his father and managing health issues. Scott Bakula, a Golden Globe winner, is Terry, the handsome single guy who realizes he may actually want for more in his life.

Men of a Certain Age manages to find the humor of addressing the sad reality of life, while honestly presenting what its like to be 40 year old men.
